For LGBT liberation, not rainbow capitalism

As we enter June, the Communist Party sends solidarity to LGBT people everywhere for Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

We salute and remember those, including Communist Party and YCL members, who have played their part in the struggle for LGBT equality and liberation throughout the years.

While significant gains have been made in recent decades and it is important for us to celebrate them, we should never be content while there are still major victories yet to be won.

Pride has increasingly become commercialised and co-opted by big business for advertising and white washing.

The reality is that under capitalism, discrimination and prejudice will always be tools of the ruling class to divide and distract working people.

Attacks on and discrimination against minorities and capitalism are inseparable and intrinsically linked. True LGBT equality and liberation have been and will always be impossible under capitalism.

An end to discrimination, in all its forms, goes hand in hand with the struggle for socialism – a truly humane, democratic and inclusive society.

There is a world to be won for LGBT people and it will take the unity of all working people to achieve it.
